Traditional Chinese Medicine: theory, science and clinical evidence

Special issue information:
There is an increasing integration of the practices and methods of ancient Chinese medicine into evidence-based preventive and curative treatments. This change in the attitude of medical science towards ancient Chinese knowledge is fundamental because it improves the human being’s ability to heal. At the same time, in the international biomedical community there is growing skepticism of the reductionist vision of care. This approach does not take into account the wholeness of the human being, the unity between the psychic and biological dimensions or their reciprocal dialectical influence. In response to this proactive scientific criticism, scholars in the field of Psychoneuroendocrineimmunology and other interdisciplinary scientists are now beginning to appreciate and investigate both the philosophical and practical aspects of Chinese medicine. In this conceptual model, human beings are viewed as dynamic organisms that are unstable and constantly looking for balance. This is influenced by internal and external factors and as well as psychic ones that, in ancient Eastern medical thought, have their roots in the body.
The Special Issue welcomes all types of submissions that:
- Deal with the clinical efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, particularly concerning acupuncture, tai chi chuan, qigong, either as a single treatment or as an integrated treatment with scientific medicine, for the care of medical and psychological disorders.
- Explore aspects of traditional Chinese theory (meridians, acupuncture points, pathophysiological dynamics)
- Propose and justify the use of ancient Chinese knowledge to advance our understanding of human beings and biomedical scientific research.
